Batman’s True Audio Identity

February 5, 2010

Last night my wife and I watched Batman The Dark Knight on Blu-ray.  As the movie started, I double checked which soundtrack was enabled.  To my surprise, the Dolby surround track was the default, not the Dolby TrueHD track.  Soon as I switched it, the change was very apparent!  The sound was richer, had more dimension and it validated my investment in a subwoofer.  It’s puzzling why the disk would not default to the best audio option. Perhaps it’s something to do with backwards compatibility?  Surprising given the relative youth of the blu-ray format.  So, before you watch a movie on DVD or Blu-ray, go into the audio menu and make sure the best option is selected.  Which options are better than others?
