Unboxing TiVo Stream

August 31, 2012

The new TiVo Stream just arrived at Tech of the Hub. This little box lets you stream recorded and live TV from your TiVo Premiere to your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad. You can also “side-load” or download content to mobile devices to watch it on the go. Yes, Android support is coming soon. At the moment, the home theater has been disassembled for some electrical upgrades so I haven’t been able to hook it up for a test spin yet. For now, here’s the unboxing video. However, even the packaging had a couple of surprises. Stay tuned for a more in-depth review. Enjoy!

Update: My hands-on review of the TiVo Stream has been posted.

You don’t need two Premieres to push out four streams. The new Premiee 4 has four tuners.

The packaging for the Stream specifically states this limitation. I double checked with TiVo and even a 4 tuner box is subject to the 3 outbound streams. A 4 tuner TiVo can handle 8 HD streams total: 4 from recording on all tuners, one for playing back recorded programs on the TV and 3 for the Stream. Could change in the future but that’s how they have released it to ensure every stream is high quality.
