Looking for some holiday fun after Christmas dinner? When you’re done playing with your new sonic screwdriver and TARDIS USB hub (I have one and USB hubs are cool), sit back and enjoy the annual Doctor Who Christmas special. The episode titled, The Snowmen will premiere on Christmas Day at 9 PM Eastern / 8 PM Central in the United States. For those of you with BBC1, it will be on at 5:15 PM. This episode will introduce the Doctor’s newest companion, Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. Yes, she’s already appeared in the Doctor Who season 7 premiere, Asylum of the Daleks, albeit as a different character (I believe the episode will explain the connection).
A word to the wise, be careful if you google the “Doctor Who Christmas Special” or search for “Jenna-Louise Coleman” in Google News. If you do, a big spoiler is revealed (I narrowly avoided it myself).
To get you excited for the Christmas special, I’ve stitched together this quick guide. First is the episode poster. Next is the four minute prequel ”minisode” that was first played during the BBC’s recent Children in Need fundraiser. Finally, there’s the episode preview. And if all of that’s not enough, BBC America has a countdown calendar. Every day the calendar has a new multimedia treat including clips, interviews and images. Update: The Doctor Who Tumblr also has tons of great content including an endless Q&A with Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman.
So, set the TiVo for Christmas Day. If you don’t get BBC America, I’m sure Amazon or iTunes will have it streaming in time for Boxing Day.
